If you wanted 3K Arriraw, you needed an external recorder, like the Codex Arriraw Recorder or Onboard Recorder. The XT replaces the Sx S recorder with a ‘Codex-built’ XR module – right on the camera (XR – Extended Recording): Now you can record 3K, 1080p Prores or DNx HD, all in-camera – up to 120 fps.The P2 system and SP recording modes actually only record 1440x1080 – but still looks really good though!
As the camera head has a true 1920x1080 CCD block, some HD Broadcasters have cleared this format for conditional use in HD deliverable productions – a great plus point as the format is really great value, although the limited bandwidth and heavy compression mean that the recording format is not cleared as an approved HD acquisition format for many Broadcasters.
Its 2/3-inch type three Power HAD FX CCD sensors deliver the same outstanding picture quality and low-light performance as the acclaimed PDW-700, however it records onto Solid State Sx S media rather than optical Professional Disc.
The exceptionally ergonomic chassis is a development of the acclaimed PDW-700/F800, while already class-leading power consumption is further reduced along with weight for superb on-location usability.
The cameras have been extremely well received by producers and cameramen alike owing to the quality being the best of its category.
Worth mentioning that XDCAM EX, unlike the Panasonic P2 format does capture the full 1920x1080 pixels when capturing to solid-state cards when recording in HQ format 35Mb mode.
